Finally got a new dp thanks to @olliartnz. This is my gold fish ugly Betty, she was one of my most prized fish during my artist residency in the U. S. child memories come back and forth and how fitting to have a figure of this size sit in the middle of @depotartspace. It's funny how people don't realize how small some of these paintings are. I see some Jaws drop when they zoom in and realize some lines I do are thinner than hairs. I still remembered it like yesterday when I was talking to Chris Parkin about how many times I had to enter to get into the parkins drawing prize. I was almost to give up hope after my 5th year in entering. Then the miracle happened and I got the merit award for that year. Then 2 years around I got my second merit award. I had to revisit the afterlife series after a dream I had. I was told to do what Iike and to do it with passion, not to be chained by money. I woke up and flooded the painting with details. Bill hammond the artist was a great inspiration to me during my college years as a art student. Title:"Afterlife of an artist" I was very sad when I found out one of my heroes in life, Bill W. D Hammond passed away. Bill was a very humble person and would shy away from photos, he was a philanthropy artist that helped the country during the Christchurch earthquake. I found his art inspired me in many ways during my college painting years. 2016 was the year I won my very first vermont art prize and was invited to the Rannoch for dinner. The paint I saw that day was the exact one I painted for my artist model, I remember it like yesterday how I stared at it for 5 minutes and time froze. The name of the piece : "waiting for buller". Its been close to a year now and I feel I want to let out my feelings and allow a great artist to shine again. R. I.
